Biography of Warren Buffett (US Investor and Entrepreneur)

Warren Edward Buffett was born in Omaha, Nebraska, USA on August 30, 1930 which is an investor, entrepreneur and philanthropist from the United States.

He is the most successful investor in the world. Buffett himself is a commissioner, president and chief shareholder at Berkshire Hathaway.

He became the third richest man in the world in 2015 by Forbes magazine. Right in 2012, Time magazine put the name of Buffett as one of the most influential people in the world.

Buffett himself is often called the "Wizard of Omaha" or "Oracle of Omaha" and is known for his loyalty to value investing investment methods and his frugal lifestyle despite his enormous wealth.

Buffett himself is also a very dedicated philanthropist who vows to donate up to 99% of his wealth for philanthropic purposes, the majority via the Gates Foundation. On April 11, 2012, Buffett was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and managed to recover in September 2012.

Not only that, Buffett also actively contribute to political affairs, such as providing support for Hillary Clinton as a Democratic presidential candidate for the election of President of the United States in 2016.

Early Life

Warren Buffett was born in 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska, of French origin. He is the 2nd child of 3 brothers and became the only son of Leila and a member of the House of Representatives of the United States, Howard Buffett.

Buffett himself began his education by studying at Rose Hill Elementary School. Right in 1942, his father was elected for the first time (hereafter elected 4 times in a row) to become a member of the House of Representatives of the United States.

Furthermore, Buffett continued his education at Alice Deal and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947.

Buffett had a huge interest in business and investment issues when he was still young. One of the earliest businesses he went through was selling gum, Coca Cola and weekly door-to-door magazines.

He also worked at his grandfather's grocery store. When he was in high school, he earned money by delivering newspapers, selling golf balls and stamps, car polishes and so on.

For his first tax report in 1944, Buffett demanded a tax cut of US $ 35 for the use of bicycles and clocks used to deliver newspapers. Later in 1945, when grade 2 high school, Buffett along with his friend bought a used pinball machine for US $ 25.

This used pinball machine is placed in the salon. Over the next few months, they managed to grow well by having several pinball machines in 3 salons in Omaha. The business was then sold by Buffett and his friend to war veterans for US $ 1200.

Buffett's interest in the world of stocks and investments had begun during school as he often visited the regional stockbroker's office near his father's stockbroker's office.

While traveling to New York City at the age of 10, Buffett visited the New York Stock Exchange. Right at the age of 11, Buffett bought as many as 3 sheets of Cities Service Utility utility stock and bought 3 copies for his brother Doris Buffett (owner of The Sunshine Lady Foundation).

At the age of 15, he earned more than US $ 175 per month from the sale of the Washington Post. At the time of junior high school, he tried to invest in his father's company and managed to buy as many as 16 hectares of farmland for rent to farmers.

He bought the land when he was 14 years old with the result of saving he had earned of US $ 1200. When Buffett lectures, he has even collected more than US $ 90,000 (already adjusted for inflation until 2009).

In 1947, Buffett attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. At first, he was interested to grow his business, but with coercion from his father, he finally chose to enroll in college.

He graduated at the age of 19 years with a Bachelor of Management Economics degree. Furthermore, he continued his education at Columbia University, after being rejected by Harvard Business School and successfully earning a Masters of Economics degree in 1951. Warren Buffett prefers to Columbia University because he knows Benjamin Graham teaches at the university.
