Biography of Rudyard Kipling (Short Story Writer)

Joseph Rudyard Kipling is a short story writer, novelist, as well as a poet who is remembered primarily for his argument about British imperialism in India.

Kipling was born in Bombay, India, on December 30, 1865 and died on January 18, 1936 in London, England.

His father, John Lockwood Kipling, is an artist who is also the head of the Lahore museum, which has a strong influence on the work and his mother Alice Macdonald.

Kipling himself went to England with his parents when he was 6 years old and left to live in a foster home in the Southsea area, for 5 years, which Kipling has described in a story entitled Baa Baa, Black Sheep (1888).


Kipling continued his education at United Services College Westward Ho area which is located in the north of Devon, which became an existing school as well as a dormitory. Kipling returned to India in 1882 and worked for 7 years as a journalist.

Kipling published his poem in the Ditties Department in 1886 and subsequently a collection of short stories he had titled, Plain Tales from the Hills (1888).

Then, between 1887 and 1889, Kipling made a short story form with 6 volumes. He began to be famous for his work entitled Just So Stories, The Jungle Book and Gunga Din.

Rudyard Kipling eventually won the Nobel Prize for literature received in 1907.
