Biography of Rem Koolhaas (Architect)

Remment Lucas "Rem" Koolhaas was born on November 17, 1944, an architect, architectural theorist, urbanist and professor of Urban Architecture and Design Practice at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Koolhaas studied at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Koolhaas is an OMA founding partner and counterpart who has an AMO research orientation based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In 2005, he co-founded Volume Magazine together with Mark Wigley and Ole Bouman.

In 2000, Rem won a Pritzker Award. In 2008, Time placed Koolhaas as the 100 Most Influential People in the World.

Koolhaas was born to Anton Koolhaas and Selinde Pietertje Roosenburg. His father was a novelist, critic and background writer.

Koolhaas has a brother Thomas and sister Annabel.

His father was strongly supported by Indonesia because of the autonomy of the Dutch colonial in writing. When the independence war was won, he was invited to perform a cultural program for 3 years and his family moved to Jakarta, Indonesia in 1952.

In 1969, Koolhaas worked together to write The White Slave, a Dutch noir film. Subsequently he became a journalist at the Haagse Post before beginning his studies for college.

Koolhaas is married to Madelon Vriesendorp, an artist who has two children, Charlie and Thomas.
