Biography of Ehud Barak (Israeli Politician)

Ehud Barak was born in Mishmar HaSharon kibbutz, on February 12, 1942 who was an Israeli politician and became the 10th person as Prime Minister of Israel during the period 1999-2001.

Barak joined the Israeli Defense Forces in 1959. During his 35 years of service, he succeeded in gaining a position as Chief of Staff General and gained a position as Rav Aluf, the highest position in the military world of Israel.

Not only that, Barak is also awarded a "Medal of Exclusive Service" and 4 other award marks for 'boldness and operational excellence'. During that time, Barak also received a bachelor's degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1976 and a master's degree in the Economic System of Technical Skills in 1978 from Stanfrod University in Palo Alto, California, USA.

In politics, he served as Minister of the Interior in 1955 and became Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1995-1996. He was elected to the Knesset in 1996, during which he was a member of the Foreign Affairs and the Knesset Defense Committee. In 1996, Barak became leader of the Labor Party.

Until finally, Ehud Barak was appointed Prime Minister of Israel on May 17, 1999 and ended his term on March 7, 2001 after losing to Ariel Sharon in the Prime Minister's special election held in February.

When Ehud Barak was defeated in an election in 2001 by Ariel Sharon with a landslide defeat, Barak left Israel to work as a senior advisor to US-based Electronic Data Systems. He is also a partner of a company with a focus on security-related work.

In June 2007, the Israeli Parliament named Ehud Barak as the new Minister of Defense of Israel.
